A Grown-Up Escape
Just for Grown-Ups — Adults-Only Dining in York
A little me-time, minus the high-chairs. The Whippet Inn is an adults-only restaurant in the heart of York — escape the ordinary, inside the walls but outside the box.
From the suggestions of our friends and family, we've tried to create something a little different to what's on offer by the high-street chains. We're sure we'll upset a few people with our choice — but when that rare day comes that you get a little 'me time', we hope we might be forgiven.
An adults-only restaurant in York
Nothing kills the mood quite like screaming kids while you're trying to relax and savour a great night out. So The Whippet is an adults-only restaurant in York — 14 years and above only — unless, that is, they have four legs and a tail. Well-behaved dogs are always forgiven their age. It's a grown-up setting for grown-up appetites: a proper evening out in York centre, with nothing to interrupt the conversation, the cocktails or the beef.
A grown-up setting, unapologetically
Think moody colours, kama sutric wallpaper, a menagerie of quirky trinkets and a proper grown-up cocktail in hand. A bit gothic, a hint of madness, and entirely unapologetic about it. This is your safe haven from the stresses of daily life — so settle in, and let us look after you.
It's why so many people choose us for a special occasion or grown-up celebration: birthdays, anniversaries and date nights that deserve a room full of adults, not a soft-play soundtrack. If you'd like to know more about who we are and why we do things this way, read our story.
Escape the ordinary. Inside the walls, but outside the box.
Here's everything worth knowing before you book a table.

If there's space, we'll 'av ya — but booking is recommended.
Walk-ins are always welcome when we've got a table free. We can get busy, though, so booking ahead is the safest bet for the night you want.
